A stellar 12 months saw PowerPhotonic ship US-made optics for the first time; launch pioneering new products; strengthen US defence links; and increase European and Asian market penetration.
An exceptional 12 months at PowerPhotonic saw many new US defence projects and wider US market expansion, supported by an essential upscaling of capacity from the new manufacturing site in Southern Arizona. The company pushed the boundaries of freeform, wafer-scale optics design and manufacture, with the introduction of many new products for markets in defence, glass cutting/processing, additive manufacturing, welding and dermatology. Its global brand profile was raised with an extensive exhibition presence; the presentation of numerous papers; and the launch of a comprehensive new website. Turnover also increased, as the company’s established reputation as a trusted and proven supplier was consolidated.
Dr. Stephen Kidd, Head of Sales and Marketing at PowerPhotonic, said, “PowerPhotonic is successfully producing high-precision, high-performance, wafer-scale optics at its brand-new, US manufacturing facility in Sahuarita, Southern Arizona. This has not only unlocked the US defence market, where local manufacture is required, but also increased overall production capacity and brought essential supply chain resilience. Growth was global, but a landmark order stood out: a US, ‘directed energy’ order for beam combiners for US defence applications, which validated the Arizona investment and expansion in the US..
“PowerPhotonic launched many new products over the last 12 months. Coherent, high-power, beam combiners for use in defence applications; beam shapers and homogenisers for laser tattoo removal, improving efficiency and performance, with minimal skin damage; bessel beam generators, for glass cutting, with an exceptionally flat and extended Z profile; and finally, single mode, Ring and Trident, laser beam generators delivering optimised laser profiles for additive manufacturing and welding.
“PowerPhotonic’s new website supported sales, helping cement the company’s position as the world-leader in wafer-scale, freeform optics, as well as providing an extensive information and technical resources portal for customers. The company attended numerous shows around the world, presenting papers, developing its customer base, and building its brand. These included SPIE Defence and Commercial sensing; the Industrial Laser Applications Symposium; Laser World of Photonics; SPIE Photonics West; The Optica Design and Fabrication Congress; and the ICALEO® congress for breakthrough laser solutions. A highlight, that was closer to home, was SPIE Photonex, where we were joined by six other high-growth, UK companies meeting with the Princess Royal.
All in all, it has been a stellar 12 months”
