PowerPhotonic, designer and manufacturer of freeform, wafer-scale optics, exhibited at SPIE Photonex 2023, in Glasgow this week. SPIE Photonex is the UK’s leading photonics exhibition and conference and represents the entire, photonics supply chain. This year, PowerPhotonic joined six other Photonex exhibitors, most of whom are successful, high-growth, UK manufacturers like PowerPhotonic, in an exclusive meeting with the Princess Royal.
Dr. Stephen Kidd, Head of Sales and Marketing, said, “It was an honour for PowerPhotonic to have the opportunity to present to the Princess Royal, during SPIE Photonex. We were able to explain how, in 20 years, a company like PowerPhotonic was able to grow from a Heriot Watt, University spin-out, to a successful, international manufacturer in an emerging technology sector, with US and UK production facilities.
“We explained that the UK is at the forefront of the photonics industry. Successful manufacturers like PowerPhotonic, in an enabling technology sector like photonics, create high-value-add jobs; make a disproportionally large contribution to the local economy; help develop a wider support ecosystem; and benefit the UK’s GDP. Strategic funding, innovation grants and favourable capital investment support from government are critical to the development of companies like ours and the high-tech, UK businesses of the future.”
PowerPhotonic is a corporate member of SPIE, alongside other photonics’ industry leaders in research, new applications, and commercialisation.
