PowerPhotonic, designer and manufacturer of freeform wafer-scale optics, has received an order exceeding $500k from a leading US defence industry supplier. The order is for Coherent Beam Combiners, which will be used in high-power ‘directed energy’ defence applications. It was received by the company’s manufacturing facility in Sahuarita, Southern Arizona.

Dr. Stephen Kidd, Head of Sales and Marketing at PowerPhotonic, said, “PowerPhotonic is pleased to have received this order, worth over $500k. The order is for high-power laser, coherent beam combiners, for defence applications, and will be produced by PowerPhotonic in Arizona.

“A US defence order of this magnitude is a significant milestone for the company. It clearly validates our decision to open a US-based design and manufacturing facility, which is obligatory for key suppliers to the US defence industry. Our US facility is also a duplicate of our UK manufacturing site in Dalgety Bay, Scotland, bringing essential high-resilience to our supply chain, for this and many of the markets we service.”
