As PowerPhotonic celebrates a year of successful freeform wafer-scale optics design, manufacture and support in the USA, the company remains focused on executing and delivering an ambitious, strategic, global expansion plan. The Sahuarita facility in southern Arizona was a critical enabling step to supplying the US defence market with US designed and manufactured freeform optics for High Energy Laser (HEL) applications including those of directed energy.
“PowerPhotonic’s investment in the Sahuarita site was quickly validated, with the initial production optics being used for coherent beam combiners for HEL defence applications,” explains Dr. Stephen Kidd, Head of Sales and Marketing at PowerPhotonic. “Subsequently, we have had multiple orders from a range of defence contractors bringing strong growth to the company. The US facility has supported an essential upscaling of capacity, not only for defence markets but also for additive manufacturing, laser welding, and medical applications. It brings supply chain resilience, duplicating critical UK production lines in the US, and adds the flexibility to manufacturing in either location.”
