Job title:  Management Accountant and IT Systems Manager


To support the growth of our operations we are seeking a technically savvy qualified or part-qualified Accountant to join our team reporting directly to the Finance Director and to take responsibility for all aspects of management accounting. This newly created role will include standard costing and variance reporting and analysis, as well as being the ‘go to’ person for the NAV ERP system and the key contact with the IT managed service provider, ensuring a high standard of IT systems management and support.

Key areas of responsibility

Monthly management reporting including:

  • Working with the Accounts Assistant to close the month-end in NAV, performing all necessary reconciliations and making any month-end accounting adjustments

  • Reviewing and submitting the monthly VAT and EC sales returns

  • Reviewing, investigating and reporting on manufacturing variances

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and assisting the Finance Director with review and analysis of the results and reporting to the Management Team and the Board

  • Assisting the Finance Director with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly re-forecasts, and with the periodic review and updating of work centre/department cost rates and standard costs

  • Any other management accounting projects/tasks as required

Managing the effective utilisation and future development of the recently implemented NAV ERP system including:

  • Becoming a ‘super-user’ on the ERP system and on Jet Reports, providing ongoing user support, report writing and training

  • Ensuring that the ERP system is functioning effectively, identifying user issues and liaising with Azzure IT on support issues as required

  • Maintaining ERP system administration and security, including defining and implementing user roles, access and permissions. Responsibility for setting up new users and removing leavers

  • Working with users and the Management Team to define and plan ongoing development of the ERP system, upgrades, enhancements etc. Leading project teams to implement any agreed system developments

Providing general IT systems support to the Company including:

  • Working with the Management Team to define and implement an appropriate IT strategy, including assessing and defining requirements for additional information systems outside the scope of ERP

  • Working with IT managed service provider to ensure that:

  • adequate and appropriate levels of data and systems security are maintained at all times

  • procedures for regularly backing-up data are in place

  • an adequate disaster recovery plan is maintained

  • the hardware infrastructure is properly maintained and that an appropriate level of user support is provided by the managed service provider

  • all new IT equipment/software, is compatible with existing infrastructure and is properly licensed

  • all necessary internal and external IT training is provided as and when required

  • Working with the Management Team to define and implement an appropriate Internet Access and Data Use Policy

  • Ensuring that the Company complies with the Data Protection Act

  • Any other IT related tasks as required

Required skills and experience

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA preferred)
  • Highly IT literate, ideally with previous experience of working with outsourced IT systems and IT support
  • Previous experience with ERP systems, ideally in a manufacturing environment
  • Track record of communicating well at all levels, both written and verbally


  • Previous experience of accounting in a manufacturing environment, incl. familiarity with standard costing and variance analysis
  • Previous IT management experience
  • Experience of working with outsourced IT service providers/consultants
  • Previous experience of using Microsoft NAV
  • Previous experience of managing projects to a budget/timetable
  • Familiarity with databases (design/architecture), SQL and Sharepoint

Job title:  Technical Operator


Replacement resource for the Technical Operations team to support increased production output. Shift cover at weekends.

Primary areas of focus will be operating the dicer, running the rigs, day to day working in the cleanroom, packing, labelling and inspection. Following a period of training, the role will work 3.30 pm to 12 midnight

Essential duties and responsibilities

Initially the main activities of this role will include:

  • Dicing Machine
  • UV Cure System
  • Support Product Development team in carrying out machining and dicing trials
  • Packaging and shipping of product to outside vendors and customers
  • Preparation of optical glass substrates ready for processing
  • General housekeeping
  • Inspection of optical parts under microscope, and investigation of cause of defects
  • Monitoring and replenishment of substrate stocks

Further responsibilities (training will be provided) include:

  • Preparation of batch files to support laser machining equipment
  • Loading, unloading and processing on production equipment
  • Laser machining equipment
  • Optical Metrology equipment
  • Maintain records and stock control in production control database
  • Maintain control of production work in progress within Kanban system
  • Routine monitoring checks and maintenance of production equipment

Required skills and experience

Experience in operation of technical manufacturing equipment including dicing equipment

  • Ability to learn, and contribute to the development of, new techniques
  • PC Literate, with knowledge of Microsoft packages: Excel, Word, Access database
  • Capable of working independently with minimum supervision and flagging relevant issues for escalation as required
  • Can support preparation of operating instruction documentation
  •  Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work under pressure & prioritise workload
  • Proactive self-starter – solutions and improvement focused approach to problem solving
  • Ability to be flexible in working hours if required – occasional basis with suitable notice 


Experience of:

  • Cleanroom Environment
  • Working with sensitive/fragile material e.g. fused silica, silicon wafers etc.
  • Inspection tasks under microscope
  • Chemical handling and MSDS (Material Safety Data sheets)
  • Experience in operation of wafer dicing equipment
  • Metrology Equipment
